HarvestEye Expands into Finland with New Nordic Distributorship

British agricultural technology company HarvestEye is continuing its growth trajectory with its first distributorship agreement in Finland, marking an exciting step toward expanding its footprint in the Nordic region.

Introducing HarvestEye to Finland

The distributorship, secured with Antti Hintikka of U2 Online Oy, brings HarvestEye’s machine learning-driven crop insights tool to Finland’s potato and onion markets. Hintikka, an expert in project management and agritech distribution, is now tasked with introducing HarvestEye 2.0 and the HarvestEye Handheld to growers, packers, and processors across the country.

Hintikka has spent time trialing HarvestEye units to understand the system’s capabilities and gather feedback from local users. With this groundwork laid, he will now focus on distributing the technology and demonstrating its potential to optimize harvesting operations.

Why HarvestEye?

HarvestEye’s crop insights system is a cost-effective tool designed to deliver detailed visibility into crop size, shape, and mapping variability. The data, accessible via an online portal and daily reports, supports better decision-making throughout the supply chain.

The HarvestEye 2.0 system has been enhanced for greater accuracy and speed and can now operate effectively in challenging conditions, including low evening sun. Meanwhile, the HarvestEye Handheld offers the same powerful insights in a portable format, ideal for pre-harvest test digs to count and size crops on-site.

Partnering for Local Impact

Harry Tinson, General Manager of HarvestEye, shared his thoughts on the collaboration:

“Partnering with Antti was a logical choice for us. His extensive experience and established presence in the Finnish potato and onion markets ensure that HarvestEye will be showcased to the right customers.

Finland’s unique growing conditions presented an opportunity for us to adapt and demonstrate how HarvestEye can enhance harvesting operations, and Antti’s local expertise is critical to achieving this.”

The partnership will also complement Hintikka’s ongoing work with the HZPC/Agritask Decision Support System (DSS), a precision agriculture platform. The integration of HarvestEye’s data insights into DSS offers growers a comprehensive approach to crop management, validating decisions made through the system and further optimizing yields.

Feedback from Finnish Trials

Hintikka spoke positively about his experience trialing the technology:

“Trialing HarvestEye last season showed us the system’s value in providing crucial additional data for growers and potato companies during harvest.

This data completes the loop of information gathering, enabling comprehensive agronomic optimization and precise insight into the incoming crop supply. It’s an excellent tool for Finnish farmers looking to elevate their operations.”

Scandinavian Expansion Plans

This agreement represents just the beginning of HarvestEye’s expansion into the Nordic region.

Vidyanath Gururajan, Managing Director of HarvestEye, emphasized the company’s broader vision:

“This distributorship marks an exciting time for HarvestEye as we expand into Scandinavian markets.

We aim to secure further partnerships, ensuring our technology reaches more customers who can trial, provide feedback, and adopt HarvestEye to unlock new efficiencies in their operations.”

The Future of HarvestEye in the Nordics

With its strong entry into Finland, HarvestEye is poised to bring its innovative crop insights tools to a wider Nordic audience. By addressing the specific needs of Finnish growers and adapting to regional conditions, the company continues to demonstrate its commitment to empowering farmers worldwide.

As HarvestEye builds on this foundation, its mission to enhance agricultural sustainability and efficiency is set to resonate across new markets.
